Alpha-lipoic acid is a fatty-acid-like molecule the body uses as a co-substrate in mitochondrial enzymes that convert glucose into ATP, the cellular energy currency. It also recycles other antioxidant molecules like glutathione and vitamin C, which is why the literature sometimes calls it the universal antioxidant. ALA is unusual in being both water and fat soluble, so it can move through aqueous and lipid environments inside the cell.

Where most antioxidant capsules carry a long ingredient list, this one carries one molecule at a clinical dose: 200 mg of alpha-lipoic acid per capsule, in a clean carrier with no extras competing for absorption. The endogenous ALA the body makes and the ALA bound up in food are often unavailable for use, which is part of why a focused supplemental dose is the format people reach for.

This is a partner to a real-food, fiber-forward plate.
